Summary: “Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden. In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees…and a collection of precious “butterflies”—young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.
When the garden is discovered, a survivor is brought in for questioning. FBI agents Victor Hanoverian and Brandon Eddison are tasked with piecing together one of the most stomach-churning cases of their careers. But the girl, known only as Maya, proves to be a puzzle herself.”
I downloaded this as a part of the Amazon Prime free book thing they have every month. The summary sounded interesting and it was free so I figured, why not. I’m so glad I found this book! I would read a little bit every morning before work and not want to put it down. The way the story switches between the present and the past keeps it interesting and tells the story in a unique way. Fair warning, it is not for everyone as it contains rape and other sensitive subjects. But even with that, it’s a beautifully written story.
I got done reading it and all I wanted was more. And for it to be turned into a movie. Like yesterday. I even considered working on the script myself because it’s been a while since I worked on a script. Luckily, it looks like the story has been optioned by Anonymous (The Revenant and Spotlight), so here’s hoping it turns out just as good as it could in my head.
