Suicide Squad

4/5 Stars

Summary: “Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while the diabolical Joker launches an evil agenda of his own.”

The movie people tried to shut Rotten Tomatoes down over.  I didn’t read any of those bad reviews people were complaining about, but I can get where they’re coming from.  The movie wasn’t perfect.  I feel like comic movies can be rated on so many different scales, that it’s really up to the person watching to decide.  Some people are looking for it to be as close to the comic books as possible, or maybe they just want a ton of awesome action scenes, and then there are the people who want a great storyline (which, let’s be honest, isn’t usually the focus for these types of movies).

I would kind of like a good blend of all three of those things.  I feel like Suicide Squad would have made a great tv show.  With so many potentially great characters like that, it is going to be hard to give them all the time they deserve in a 2 hour movie.  We mainly got to focus on Deadshot and Harley Quinn (I’m fully on the Harley Quinn train btw, she better get her own movie) which were good story lines, but they could’ve been so much more.

For anyone going to see the movie because of the Joker, don’t get your hopes up.  For the amount that Jared Leto was talked about for this movie, he wasn’t in it much.  Take away his character completely, and it wouldn’t have been that different.  It felt like they had a solid plot for him, and then pieces were cut out to make it incomplete and pointless.

There are a bunch of things I wish were different about the story of the movie, especially in the way that the group is formed, but it was a pretty good movie and I would definitely watch it again – along with any inevitable sequels.

On a side note, I’m kind of annoyed there wasn’t more Boomerang.  Aside from Harley, he was the one I was most excited to see and then there was next to nothing 😦
